What is the Exchange Program?

The Exchange Program, also known as ‘ExPro’, gives students the opportunity to do an internship in a country with an active IAAS chapter. The aim of ExPro is to provide the student with new skills and knowledge, along with exchanging ideas and being aware of different social and cultural environments.

There are 3 categories in which internships are provided:

Internships on farms

Internships related to education, research, engineering, and/or management

Internship focused on community based projects, usually volunteer work

Mission Statement of IAAS

“To promote the exchange of experience, knowledge and ideas and to improve the mutual cultural understanding between students in the field of agricultural and related sciences, all over the world”

Organizing the exchange program is one of the ways to accomplish this mission statement. With the exchange program, IAAS wants to provide intercultural learning opportunities for young people that contribute to positively to their self-realisation. Also, trough engagement, IAAS wants to get young people active and provide them with leadership opportunities.

IAAS expro is aiming to give a positive learning experience, develop theoretical and practical leadership skills. Beside that, IAAS provide the opportunity to students who wants to improve their awareness and knowledge about social issues and different practice of sending and receiving country. In addition, IAAS support student to contribute more to student personal and professional life goals.

The aim of an internship shall be to provide the outgoing exchange student with the following:

  • A positive learning experience.

  • Practical skills and knowledge in a foreign environment to complement their higher educational background.

  • Interaction with a different social and cultural environment with a view to gaining intercultural competences

  • Development of theoretical and practical leadership skills

  • Opportunity to apply their personal and professional skills, knowledge, attitudes and values to work for the organization as well as the host communities.

  • Develop the student’s awareness and knowledge of social issues and different practices of the sending and hosting country.

  • Opportunity to contribute to students personal and professional life goals

 

The aim of an internship is not:

  • To provide an opportunity for the purpose of earning money

  • To provide a holiday

  • Intended to be a permanent career placement or recruitment opportunity in another country. If the organization decides to extend the internship on a permanent basis, IAAS will have no role in facilitating this

  • A vehicle for any person to permanently leave their country. IAAS does not encourage the extension of internships beyond the limit of 12 month.
